Belgrade Recreation’s Sail Camp
The Center for All Seasons, home to our Belgrade Recreation and our Sail Camp Program, is seated on the shore of Great Pond in Belgrade Lakes. Camp Golden Pond is our recreation camp offering day camp for more than 90 residents in the Belgrade Lakes area and our Sail Camp program is a third year program, but the first summer being piloted, with the help from Great Pond Yacht Club, by Belgrade Recreation. It offers a 5-day day camp for ages 8-17 and is designed to offer kids an introduction to sailing through hands-on experience. It is our hope that as the program grows, it becomes a grass roots program here at the Department of Recreation and with community support will extend far beyond our original expectations.
The program has already seen more than 30 campers this summer, and has gained tremendous respect and support from our local businesses as well. Some, including Great Pond Marina even stepped forward to offer financial support to ensure as many campers as possible reach the water and beyond any financial limitations.
The program is not limited to residents. In fact we are hopeful that with the uniqueness of our campus and access, the program will reach beyond our community and nurture both a love for the water, but also build relationships with neighboring communities. Belgrade Recreation is on both Facebook and Instagram.
Kristin McDowell is Belgrade’s Director of Parks and Recreation. The Sailing Camp is done for 2025 but will return next year.
